Taking Off

After stressing for weeks over the flight, the early morning arrived on

Wednesday, June 12.

Departure was at a modest 7:50 am, but the car drive down to Pittsburgh following the sunset and the fog was pretty despite my internal panic of having to fly. More than anything the process through the airport and boarding were bothering me. The concept of hanging in the sky in a small compartment with other people freaked me out a bit but was easily ignored–except for the few times midair planes were in sight.

I would compare the sense of dread as similar to the pit in the stomach experienced only when attempting to play piano in front of a crowd. Thank god I didn’t have to go through alone because I shook a bit while going through security and dropped my papers promptly after going through the line.

Overall the experience was simply comical though as usual when my grandmother and I are involved. Apparently we looked so lost at check-in that we were ushered to the desk where my grandmother could not find her license. I without fail put my wallet in my bag every time even though I would simply struggle to pull it out again in thirty seconds. My grandmother even had to get patted down for her ankle?? Still not quite sure what set it off but we made it through and I boarded the plane just fine.

Wait.. that’s a lie. I had to ask how to use the freaking seat belt because the guy next to me was sitting one of my halves. Luckily they were both nice and experienced fliers.

While I was too awkward to take any photos on the plane thanks to the camera sound I can’t turn off on my phone, this was the view that greeted me on the car ride through Ogden to Becky’s house.
And this was the view upon arrival.

I just couldn’t believe how pretty Utah is and how far you can see at once.

As far as art goes I did keep myself busy on the plane by finally sketching a potential porch for my family and doodling a photo from high school marching band. (I just scrolled and randomly picked one so I could practice working with pen and portraits.) They’re a bit rough but it kept me busy in lieu of this website like I had intended since the internet wouldn’t work.
